The Digital Photography assignment has been one of, if not THE, most popular assignments in D.A. over the past five years.  The assignment has evolved, and I have always sought student opinion to help shape (and re-shape) this assignment.

PURPOSE:  The purpose of this assignment is to make you better at enhancing photographs.

The point is simple:  everything that you see in the modern media world has been filtered through the digital enhancement process.  YOU will not only learn the tricks of the trade, but you will become MOST proficient (which means VERY GOOD) at enhancing photos.

To start, we are going to work as the professionals do…below is a link to a very popular list of photo enhancing techniques.  WARNING: not EVERY single step may make sense to you, but I want for you to do your very best.

*YOU NEED TO HAVE FIVE PHOTOS READY TO USE

Browse through each of the ten tutorials, and use AT LEAST one tutorial per image (that you have)

(you can choose any TEN from this link >) http://www.onextrapixel.com/2010/08/23/34-photoshop-tutorials-that-will-leave-you-looking-like-a-pro/

1.  Find approximately FIVE photos (of your own) that you can use.  If the images are on your phone, email them to yourself.  THREE should be clear, high-resolution images of yourself.  The other TWO should feature items that are of interest to you (examples: lacrosse stick, ball, animal, flowers, guitar, etc.)

2.  Among the FIVE images of your own, at least THREE images should be clear, high-resolution images of yourself from the shoulders up-NO PHOTOS OF YOU LOOKING STRAIGHT INTO THE CAMERA, GET SOME PICS OF YOU LOOKING AT VARIOUS ANGLES AND EXPRESSING DIFFERENT MOODS (you may need to crop with Photoshop so that all you see is a view from the shoulders up), and at least TWO should be an “in-action” photo (you actually doing something that requires you to move, like this, this, or this (nice Mariemont connection there, eh?).

The other two images should be images of subjects that interest you ((examples: lacrosse stick, ball, animal, flowers, guitar, etc.)

3.  Once you have collected the necessary five photos, then you will begin working through the list of tutorials (see above)

4.  On Friday, August 29th you will submit all five for a grade.  The final images should demonstrate evidence that you have followed through on each tutorial.  You will be awarded TEN POINTS for each completed piece.

10 X 5 = 50 POINTS TOTAL.  DUE: Wednesday, September 4th.

2.  Among the FIVE images of your own, at least THREE images should be clear, high-resolution images of yourself from the shoulders up-NO PHOTOS OF YOU LOOKING STRAIGHT INTO THE CAMERA, GET SOME PICS OF YOU LOOKING AT VARIOUS ANGLES AND EXPRESSING DIFFERENT MOODS (you may need to crop with Photoshop so that all you see is a view from the shoulders up), and at least TWO should be an “in-action” photo (you actually doing something that requires you to move, like thisthis, or this (nice Mariemont connection there, eh?).

3.  Once you have collected the necessary five photos, you are to click on http://sixrevisions.com/photoshop/22-professional-photoshop-image-enhancing-tutorials/.

CHOOSE ANY FIVE OF THE TUTORIALS TO WORK THROUGH, USING FIVE DIFFERENT PHOTOS OF YOURS (see #2 above).

4.  On Wednesday, September 7th, you will submit all five for a grade.  The final images should demonstrate evidence that you have followed through on each tutorial.  You will be awarded TEN POINTS for each completed piece.
